New governance strengthens the Sustainability Science Forum

Kick-Off with partner institutions

The Sustainability Science Forum is entering a new phase: with an expanded governance structure, the congress is being put on a broader basis. It is intended to become a meeting place and discussion forum for science and practice for the sustainable shaping of the future. The next edition is planned for November 2025.

Sustainability Science Forum Kick-Off

With a kick-off meeting with the new partner institutions, the new governance form was launched. This will enable the dialogue at the interface between science and practice to be strengthened. The aim is to link these even more closely, i.e. to use scientific evidence to provide targeted support for political and social action and to feed unresolved issues back into science.

A strong network for shaping a sustainable future
The University of Bern, the University of Lausanne, the University of Basel, the Bern University of Applied Sciences, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, the University of St. Gallen, and the Federal Procurement Conference (BKB/KBOB) now jointly take responsibility for the event. They do so together with the SCNAT Sustainability Research Initiative (SRI), the Forum Landscape, Alps, Parks (FoLAP), and the Forum for Climate and Global Change (ProClim). This extensive network highlights the event's's significance as a discussion space bringing together actors from various fields to foster dialogue on sustainable development and provide scientifically grounded perspectives on pressing issues.

Focus areas and future development
During the kick-off, it was emphasized that the forum will continue to operate at the intersection of science, policy, and society. The aim is to not only provide scientific evidence for political and societal decision-making processes but also open new avenues for research. The meeting also marked the start of preparations for the Sustainability Science Forum 2025. It will feature a concrete thematic focus aligned with current political priorities and the needs of the various target groups. Additional information on the themes and program will be published in the coming months. Stay informed and subscribe to our newsletter!
